Welcome!  I'm a very experienced guide with a passion for London and its history, museums, buildings, and culture.  Visitors notice very quickly that I know how to bring London and its many sites alive –I taught in schools for many years and tailor each tour individually both for adults and families.  My tours are often as much a 'conversation' as anything else and it's great when guiding becomes interactive.

If the weather is good then a walking tour can be a particularly rewarding way to see and learn about London - I know a lot about our historic streets, their monuments and 'hidden' past and often the best way to get a 'feel' for London's history is to see it on foot. If you want to know more about our Royal traditions, for example, then we'll get the very best out of ‘Changing of the Guard’ at Buckingham Palace, and can visit the Royal Palaces including Kensington Palace, Hampton Court and Windsor Castle.  I often go to the Royal Mews where you get the perfect opportunity to see the royal carriages and horses for real. I also strongly recommend a visit to the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey as well as St Paul’s Cathedral – I can reveal the incredible histories and stories that these have.

I do many tours for children and I have a particular love for the Natural History Museum as well as the British Museum – for both sites I do kids scavenger hunt tours for which I have had excellent feedback.

Interested in our World War history? I have a long-standing passion for military history and can take you to the Churchill War Rooms or the Imperial War Museum for a fascinating highlights tour or something more in-depth as I have an extensive knowledge.

Equally, London would never have existed without the Thames River - its 'golden thread' as Winston Churchill memorably called it. We can take a Thames Clipper to Greenwich (I do a full visit to the Maritime Museum/Royal Observatory) or hire a private boat - I can tell you all about the ancient river, and its extraordinary past.

I studied Art History at St Andrew's University in Scotland, and if you are interested in art then I offer a range of tours in the National Gallery and Wallace Collections in particular.   Similarly we can look at the amazing 'Street Art' in Shoreditch for ‘something different’.

In London I have also had great feedback for my Beatles tour, which includes seeing their handwritten lyrics in the British Library – an opportunity as well to view the best preserved copy of the Magna Carta.

I also have a Master's degree in Interpreting, and am authorised by the Institute of Tourist Guiding to take tours in German, so do be in touch if that is of interest.

Albrecht Durer Exhibition at the National Gallery in London

A blockbuster exhibition at the National Gallery traces the travels of Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528), the ‘Apelles of the black line’ as Erasmus called him. These journeys were principally to cities along the Rhine (1490-4), twice to Venice (1505-7), and the Netherlands (1520-21). No other artist has produced a comparable body of work from the experience of travel. Like the landmark self-portrait of 1500, which evokes Christ (above) Durer’s art signals a self-awareness that crosses frontiers.

Poussin And The Dance Exhibition At The National Gallery In London

Paintings of dancing maenads, maidens, and a cavorting Bacchus in beautifully choreographed compositions are the subject of this themed exhibition which will be at the National Gallery from 9th October to 2nd January next year. Dance – both secular and religious – is one of the great themes in Western Art.
