Hello, I am Sue Hyde - The Guide!

WELCOME TO LONDON
There is so much to do on a visit to London and the UK and 2020 is no exception. So what kinds of things can you do with Sue Hyde The Guide?

MAYFLOWER 400

2020 is the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower to America. Let me take you on a special walk to discover London’s crucial role in the story of the travellers who left Europe to find a new life across the Atlantic in 1620.

ROYAL LONDON
Palaces and castles that tell the rich history of our royal families up to the present day: Windsor Castle, Hampton Court, Kensington Palace, St James’s Palace, all the stories from the Tower of London and not forgetting the best place for photos at the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace.

CHURCHES and CATHEDRALS
St Paul’s Cathedral for dramatic architecture and stunning views of the City of London.
Westminster Abbey, the Coronation church and final resting place of great kings and queens, is also where we commemorate so many famous British scientists, musicians, politicians, poets and writers. This is a very unusual church and not to be missed.

WALKS AROUND LONDON
Are you a fan of The Crown Series Three? Series Three was released in 2019 so join me on my special Secrets of the Crown walk.
How about a Shakespeare Walk including a visit to The Globe, his great theatre recreated by the side of the river Thames?

Other walks with Sue Hyde The Guide:
Mayflower 400 - Food and drink in London – Gay London – The river Thames Walk – The Square Mile or old City of London – London Architecture Tour – Legal London – Royal Parks - Bloomsbury Squares – Hidden London around quirky Clerkenwell – Immigrant London in Spitalfields

FAMILY FUN IN LONDON
Catch the royal guard change outside Buckingham Palace; we can feed the ducks and squirrels at St James's Park; take a flight on the London Eye , a cable car over the famous river Thames or a boat trip along the river; messy but delicious street food; look for weird and wonderful ancient stuff in the British Museum; ride on the top-deck of a famous red double-decker bus; learn how to navigate around the famous London Underground system; pretend to drive a train on the driver-less trains around the Docklands; pretend to sail the oceans aboard ships like HMS Belfast, the Golden Hind or the Cutty Sark in Greenwich and whilst we’re in Greenwich let’s take a photo on the famous Meridian time line or learn how to steer a ship into port on the simulator at the National Maritime Museum….endless of opportunities!

MUSEUMS and ART GALLERIES
London's offers rich pickings of museums and art galleries: the history of European art in the National Gallery; the wonders of civilisation in the British Museum including huge Egyptian statues, powerful Assyrian art or beautiful marble sculpture from Ancient Greece; let me reveal gorgeous treasures of art and design in the Victoria and Albert Museum and tell the story of how London became London in the Museum of London.

WORLD WAR II and CHURCHILL
Let me guide you around the place where Winston Churchill directed the war – the secret underground control centre known as the Churchill War Rooms as featured in the 2018 movie The Darkest Hour.

OUTSIDE LONDON
Want to see what is outside London? Not a problem as Britain is truly great! Let’s visit magnificent royal palaces by the river Thames at Hampton Court or the Queen’s favourite weekend home at Windsor Castle. Let’s drive past the rolling green fields of England on the way to the stunning cathedrals of Canterbury or Salisbury, the ancient spiritual site of Stonehenge, historic Bath, academic Oxford and not forgetting Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon.

Here are a few comments from some of my recent tours:

"Sue is incredible! We organized a corporate tour at the British Museum for 20ppl. The British Museum asked Sue to deliver the tour, to our luck: she wasn’t just knowledgeable and courteous, but she was also funny and energetic, and you could really see she loved what she did. Everybody loved the tour! I fully recommend Sue; esp. if you ever want to invite your colleagues over for a couple of hours in the British Museum!" EP Corporate Group - Oct 2019.

“Sue Hyde was a great Tour Guide. She was great with the children and so knowledgeable.”
Tour with a Dance Group - June 2019

"Thank you for inspiring Ava and Sara and delighting and informing us for a day....Your capacity for storytelling and turning history into a fascinating mystery to be solved enhance their interest in what otherwise might have been a dull day. Juliette also was delighted and deepening her interest in an area that already interested her greatly." Judith - July 2018
