Paul Trudgian

Paul Trudgian
  1. I still get a thrill from working in London: the majesty of the River Thames; the evocative skyline of Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral and the London Eye; the living history embodied by the Changing of the Guard. There is something to do and see for everyone, regardless of your age and how well you think you know London.
I spent some of my childhood in North London, started my teaching career in West London and have the privilege to now live in Brighton on the south coast (“London by the sea”) a mere 50 minute train journey away. I still get excited when that iconic skyline comes into view.
Before guiding, I had the second best job in the world, teaching drama at a number of schools in London, Cornwall and Brighton and training drama teachers at the University of Sussex. My love of theatre, history, literature and the arts stems from this career of over 30 years and now, having the best job in the world, I can utilise this knowledge in touring you around London and to other places further afield.
Here are just some of the treats in store:
The scene of the 40 coronations, including that of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Westminster Abbey, you will see the Coronation Chair, the Theatre, where it all takes place and tombs of many English and British Kings and Queens. A UNESCO World Heritage site.
The unrivalled Tudor splendour of Hampton Court, situated on the river, surrounded by beautiful gardens and the scene of some of the dramatic moments from King Henry VIII’s turbulent life.
Maritime Greenwich, in an unrivalled position on the river, there is so much history to be seen in one day: The Painted Hall, the Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory and some spectacular architecture.
The Tower of London, a fortress, a palace and a prison: see the priceless Crown Jewels as used in the Coronation ceremonies for centuries, the Yeoman Warders in their resplendent Tudor uniform and of course the Ravens, protected in order to protect the country… and much more. No wonder it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
St Paul’s Cathedral, a vibrant church, a national treasure and a London icon. See Sir Christopher Wren’s unique Dome from another perspective and London from an amazing viewpoint.
The National Gallery, the story of European Art, masterpiece by masterpiece, over 2,000 paintings under one roof dating from the mid 13the century to 1900: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Holbein, Titian, Turner, Constable and van Gogh. Take your pick.
Housing artefacts from every continent and every civilization, The British Museum will take you on a cultural journey from Ancient Egypt to the Greek and Roman Empires via China and South-East Asia. So much to discover.
