Matthew Sutherland

I'm a Londoner born and bred, and I love nothing more than introducing this wonderful city to others. If it's your first time to London, let's do the highlights - Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, the Changing of the Guard, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. But if you've done that already, that's even more exciting, because then I can show you the hidden London less well-trodden by visitors. Perhaps we can do a walking tour - trendy Chelsea, ancient Legal London, fun Covent Garden, the financial world of the City, the old Docklands, or edgy Spitalfields and Shoreditch. We could explore one of London's many vibrant markets, take a trip down the river by boat to historical Greenwich, or just find a cute pub by the river for lunch.
My background is in Art History, so if it's art you want, I'm your man! We are so lucky London is one of the main global centres of the art world. Our National Gallery is an unparalleled collection of the great names in Western European painting from 1200 to 1900. But we also have Tate Britain, Tate Modern, and a host of smaller, less well-known art museums with incredible, world-renowned paintings. I'd love to show you! If it's a bit of history you're after, well, let's see where Roman Gladiators fought to the death, where an 18th century King died on the toilet, where three queens had their heads chopped off, where pirates were hung from gibbets over the river Thames, or where the last public execution took place - an event so recent that spectators could have travelled by Underground to go and see it!
Whatever your special interests, let me know, and together we can put together a really fun and interesting tour to satisfy your desires, whether it's eating jellied eels, going for a walk in the park or a run along the banks of the Thames, seeing were Vivienne Westwood had her first shop, where the Beatles played their rooftop concert, or where the King buys his shoes and hats.
