Guy Eaglesfield
Hello, I’m Guy, a lifelong London resident and now a London Blue Badge tourist guide. Visiting a city for the first time is always an exciting prospect: see famous landmarks yourself, investigate treasures in the museums and galleries, board a boat and climb to the viewpoint! Yet I also want to relax - to wander through different districts, learn something of the city’s history and try to find attractive places to eat and drink that the locals seem to cherish too.
If that sounds like what you (or your guests) are after, then let me be your London guide. I can explain the rich history of the main landmarks/streets but also show the quieter side nearby: the squares and green spaces; crescents and back streets where drinking and dining feels more local. Training to be a guide, I have learnt many fascinating routes around the city - mainly on foot but also by car or coach.
A graphic designer for over thirty years, I’ve always loved art, architecture and design, enjoying small visual details that tell a bigger story. For example, why the doors of 18th century London houses are wider - to ease the arrival of guests in sedan chairs straight up the stairs to the ‘landing’. (Pubs called The Blue Posts signify where those chairs could be hired from.)
As a keen nature lover and regular walker in the countryside around London I can also recommend many places to escape the city and find that delightful English village/castle/pub.
Feel free to get in touch - it’s always a pleasure to discuss a visit to London!
