Edward Knight
Hello! It will be my pleasure to show you the highlights of London, one of the great cities of the world where I have lived for nearly 40 years.
To get started there is no better place than the Westminster area, right at the heart of the capital. The home of the monarchy, government and Parliament, much of Britain’s amazing story can be told right here. The grand buildings, streets and parks, and the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, bring it all to life.
To delve more into royal history let’s go into Westminster Abbey, an astonishing piece of Gothic architecture where coronations throughout the centuries have been held and 30 kings and queens are buried. Or we can go over to the Tower of London, another royal palace where some of the most dramatic moments in history have been played out – and you can see the Crown Jewels, those stunning artefacts used in the coronation service.
In the original city, just west of the Tower, there are fragments of the Roman walls dating back 2,000 years; a wealth of churches, civic buildings and alleyways; and, rising on its hill, St Paul’s Cathedral, a glorious example of English Baroque architecture which has hosted the state funerals of Sir Winston Churchill, the Duke of Wellington and Admiral Lord Nelson – great figures you will hear a great deal about!
My walking tours also include Legal London, Bloomsbury and Literary Chelsea. For those looking to go off the beaten track I can take you around Camden, Islington, Hampstead and the East End, each with its own special atmosphere and vibe.
I’ll recommend the best museums and galleries and can guide you around some of them; and I’ll be your expert on navigating the transport system, shopping, eating and drinking, or just chilling out in this extraordinary city.
