Clive Tanqueray
As Samuel Johnson famously said, “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.” 250 years on, that sentiment feels even more pertinent.
My name is Clive, AKA The London Street Talker. I have always lived in London, and its hold on me grows stronger with each passing year. It is, in my view, the greatest city on earth – and I would love the opportunity to share my passion for it with you. Whether you’re planning to visit iconic landmarks, such as Westminster Abbey, or to explore undiscovered neighbourhoods, I can help you experience London in a way that is personal, engaging and unforgettable.
As a qualified Blue Badge London Tourist Guide, I offer bespoke tours for individuals, families, and groups. Highlights include guided visits to London’s most celebrated attractions – both historical and cultural, including the Tower of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, The British Museum and The National Gallery. I also lead walking tours through some of the city’s most historic areas, from the ancient City of London to Royal London and Westminster (including the opportunity to watch the Changing of the Guard). Alongside these unmissable, world-famous sites, I also lift the lid on London’s hidden corners and lesser-known stories – the secret side of the city that makes it so fascinating.
Before becoming a guide, I spent my career in advertising, leading campaigns for major brands such as Guinness, Sainsbury’s, Nike and Heineken. Advertising is about distilling the essence of something and presenting it in a way that is compelling, entertaining and memorable. I bring that same skill to guiding. My aim is simple: to help you learn about London and have a thoroughly enjoyable experience at the same time.
As a South Londoner, I have a particular passion for the areas on that side of the river. Places like Bankside – once London’s vibrant entertainment district – offer a fascinating glimpse into the city’s past, from theatres and taverns to more illicit pleasures.
Greenwich, too, is a personal highlight. The birthplace of Henry VIII and his daughters Elizabeth I and Mary I, it’s a place deeply connected with Britain’s maritime history: ships once set sail from Greenwich docks to shape the nation’s global story. Today, you can stand astride the Prime Meridian at the Royal Observatory, enjoy sweeping views across the capital from Greenwich Park, and discover the remarkable story of longitude through the chronometers of the pioneering John Harrison. And, if you’re feeling more adventurous let me guide you around the Elephant & Castle - rich with history, architecture and extraordinary people and currently one of London’s most exciting areas following a multi-billion regeneration scheme.

What People Have Said about My Tours
So far I have done three tours with Clive. One to The National Gallery, one to St Pauls and one to The City of London. Each tour was unique and interesting. I have been with friends a couple of times and once I went on my own. Clive is very well organised he always got in touch beforehand to let me know what to bring , where to meet and at what time. I find Clive extremely knowledgeable, friendly and approachable. I would highly recommend going on one of his tours. Sharon
I wanted to extend my sincere thanks for the excellent tour and your thoughtful explanations today. Your knowledge and enthusiasm made the experience both enjoyable and informative. I particularly appreciated your detailed insights into each site and the patience you showed in answering our questions. Jocelyn
We have done 2 trips with Clive. One to The National Portrait Gallery, and the other to St Paul’s. Both were exceptional. He has the unique ability to bring places to life, giving them colour, and creating a story around them which keeps you captivated. I can’t wait to book my place on the next one!! Jo
Thank you for a really great day. Your breadth of knowledge is, as we say in my homeland, AWESOME or as your countrymen like to say AMAZING! So enjoyed it. Miriam
