I am a Londoner, and perhaps biased, but I think it is the best city to visit in the world. That's because of the 2000 years of history we have to share and the amazing stories that have happened in that time. Who can not fall in love with the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey and St Paul's for starters, I know I have! However, London doesn't stop there, we have endless centres of culture and hospitality for your enjoyment and education. That includes over 200 museums, some well known like the British Museum and the many of Albertopolis in South Kensington including the Victoria and Albert and Natural History Museum with its famous dinosaurs! Similarly London's many art galleries include the National Gallery with its splendid collection of Old Masters, the National Portrait Gallery with its unique gallery of historical monarchs, along with the quieter but still impressive Wallace Collection. I will also help you plan your entertainment and with recommendations for the over 300 Theatres; 3,500 pubs and 39,000 food establishments to visit and make your trip to London unforgettable!
Before becoming a Blue Badge Guide, my career included 30 years of educational posts from a teacher of history through to Headteacher and then The CEO of an Educational Trust.
In education I learnt to make history interesting and understandable to all - classes of secondary school pupils can have short attention spans! That has transferred well to the guiding world, where I have a relaxed style, keeping the interests of the visitors of all ages at the fore-front of my commentary. Multi-generational families has become something of a speciality within my guiding experience. I am also experienced in complex logistics from my later career in strategic management, so I can create an itinerary which will cover many days and many activities!
For me the sign of a good tour is where my guests of all ages recognise the links that run through London and are able to put it together with their own knowledge and have those lovely "I get it, tell me more" light bulb moments! A very satisfying moment for a guide!
I am available for all the classic tours in London and also for more niche tours including street art and food tours in the East End and beyond. I also give walking tours around the vibrant and colourful areas of Soho; Mayfair; Covent Garden; Marylebone and Westminster/St James's along with bespoke tours for specific guest requests
Outside of London I give tours to Windsor; Hampton Court; Stonehenge; Salisbury; Canterbury, Bath and Oxford.
