Sarah Slater
Thank you for visiting my profile page, I am delighted that you are considering a guided tour.
I am a social historian, my speciality is the Royal Family, Royal history, the sixteenth, seventeen and eighteenth centuries, particularly King Henry VIII and his six queens.
Growing up in Runnymede in Surrey where the Magna Carta was sealed, my local Royal residences were Hampton Court Palace and Windsor Castle. I went on to work for Historic Royal Palaces at Hampton Court Palace for many years before taking my tourist guiding examinations with the Institute of Tourist Guiding. I have been interviewed for the television by the BBC and by historians on various podcasts, I have also been acknowledged in two books by the author Gareth Russell; ‘The Palace’ and ‘Queen James’.
What my clients say about me;
Stefanie D: A must-do for Tudorphiles. I recently had the absolute pleasure of taking a private, specialised tour of Windsor Castle and Hampton Court Palace with Sarah, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. As a Tudor enthusiast who's devoured every book, documentary, podcast, and blog I can get my hands on, I honestly didn't expect to learn THAT much more - but Sarah completely blew me away. Her depth of knowledge of the Tudor period is nothing short of extraordinary. She didn't just know the facts; she had an expert-level understanding that brought the story of Anne Boleyn vividly and powerfully to life in both locations. From the hidden corners of Hampton Court to the layers of symbolism at Windsor, her insight into the history of place was captivating and consistently surprising - the kind of rich, textured storytelling that made even familiar stories feel brand new. Sarah was also incredibly kind and thoughtful, going out of her way to make sure I found the meeting points easily and felt comfortable and looked after throughout the day. Her passion, professionalism, and deep respect for the subject matter truly elevated the entire experience. If you're even remotely interested in Tudor history - and especially if you're already obsessed - book this tour. Sarah is the real deal.
David W: Sarah was BRILLIANT! Her knowledge of Windsor Castle, British royalty, and English history is encyclopedic. She made our tour fun, lively, and SO enriching. We all loved our time with her and hope to do more tours with her at other sites. I emphatically recommend Sarah if you are looking for a great guide for your tour of Windsor Castle!
Joern K: Felt like a king. I have experienced many guided tours but it is rare that someone manages to bring the time of henry the eighth to life in such a way that it never gets boring. Sarah instinctively responds to customers and really manages to bring every historical protagonist to life - even if he or she is only hanging in front of you in an oil painting. We didn't feel like tourists but were treated like royalty.
CalBear02: Sarah makes the tour feel like living in a history book. Highly recommended.
