1. Le 14 juin 1971 le premier Hard Rock Caf\u00e9 au monde ouvrit ses portes \u00e0 Londres ; un mus\u00e9e gratuit regroupant plus de 200 objets se trouve \u00e0 l\u2019entr\u00e9e ; guitares, costumes et objets personnels des plus grands artistes du rock y sont expos\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

2. Le chanteur-compositeur et interpr\u00e8te Harry Nilsson \u00e9tait le propri\u00e9taire d\u2019un appartement \u00e0 Londres ; c\u2019est ici que deux stars du rock, Mama Cass et Keith Moon, sont morts tragiquement \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 32 ans.<\/p>\n

3. Ziggy Stardust, le personnage fictif de David Bowie, a une plaque comm\u00e9morative dans Londres. Vous la trouverez dans \u2018Heddon Street\u2019, la rue photographi\u00e9e sur la couverture de son album \u00e9ponyme.<\/p>\n

4. Ce fut une grande surprise pour Jimi Hendrix lorsqu\u2019il d\u00e9couvrit que George Friderick Haendel avait habit\u00e9, au 18\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, la maison mitoyenne \u00e0 la sienne! Il d\u00e9cida sur le coup d\u2019acheter les enregistrements sur disque de sa musique.<\/p>\n

5. Des graffitis de Johnny Rotten recouvrent encore les murs de la maison o\u00f9 vivaient les Sex Pistols sur Denmark Street ; aujourd\u2019hui, la demeure est class\u00e9e parmi les monuments historiques de la ville. Paul McCartney se souvient bien de la premi\u00e8re s\u00e9ance d\u2019\u00e9coute: \u00ab Rien ne peut d\u00e9crire le plaisir d’\u00e9couter le mixage final de \u00abHey Jude \u00bb sur quatre haut-parleurs Tannoy g\u00e9ants, dont la taille dominait toute la pi\u00e8ce.<\/p>\n

7. Le fameux bar \u00e0 caf\u00e9 des 2i’s sur Old Compton Street a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le important dans l\u2019\u00e9volution de la musique \u00e0 Londres pendant les ann\u00e9es 1950. Le nom du caf\u00e9 provient de celui des propri\u00e9taires d\u2019origine, Freddie et Sammy Iran. Ceux-ci vendirent le caf\u00e9 \u00e0 deux lutteurs australiens, Paul \u00ab\u00a0Dr Death\u00a0\u00bb Lincoln et Ray \u00ab\u00a0Rebel\u00a0\u00bb Hunter. Les nouveaux propri\u00e9taires propos\u00e8rent \u00e0 leurs fid\u00e8les consommateurs de la musique en direct; de nombreux jeunes se retrouvaient alors au caf\u00e9 pour \u00e9couter en live la nouvelle vague de musique moderne, le \u00abRock’n Roll\u00bb.<\/p>\n

8. La couverture de l’album d\u2019Oasis \u00abWhat’s the Story Morning Glory\u00bb co\u00fbta 25 000 \u00a3. Noel et Liam Gallagher devaient \u00eatre photographi\u00e9s en train de se promener dans Berwick Street ; ayant bien f\u00eat\u00e9 la veille, ils manqu\u00e8rent la s\u00e9ance de photo du lendemain.<\/p>\n

9. Des ann\u00e9es 1960 aux ann\u00e9es 1980, l\u2019un des hauts lieux de la musique rock \u00e9tait le Marquee Club, sur Wardour Street. Ici, de nombreux groupes connus jouaient, en prenant souvent un pseudonyme; c\u2019est ce que firent Prince, Iron Maiden, Squeeze, Metallica ou The Jam.<\/p>\n

10. En 1975, les Sex Pistols donn\u00e8rent leur premier concert au St Martin’s College of Art. Depuis, de nombreux artistes l\u00e9gendaires du rock suivirent leurs traces : Glenn Matlock (Sex Pistols), Paul Simenon (The Clash), Adam Ant, Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), Sade et Shane MacGowan (Les Pogues).<\/p>\n

After being one of the first 24 people in the country to graduate with a degree in Travel and Tourism in 1990 I put this to great use by spending 18 years working for a CD and DVD distributor! Enforced redundancy meant I had to change career and work in education administration before embarking on a career in guiding. But throughout my working career I never lost my fascination for learning and sharing knowledge and my education and work experiences have all helped me to hone this into a memorable guiding experience I would be delighted to share with you. Like all my guiding colleagues I have extensive knowledge of the major sites - Westminster Abbey, The Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, National Gallery and the British Museum and it would be my privilege to show you\u00a0around these sites. My specialisms and interests really lie in London's transport though, it's construction and uses. I have a fascination and in depth knowledge of all of London's 33 bridges (even the really ugly ones!)\u00a0and also have studied the history and development of the London Underground (the worlds oldest first opened in 1863).\u00a0 The 'forgotten' engineering often gets overlooked and taken for granted by Londoners and visitors alike and I would be happy to explain it to you in detail. I do though also do tours looking at London's modern musical heritage - I have led several including Beatles themed walks, punk walking tours of Chelsea and central London and also wrote the Rock'n'Roll tour featured elsewhere on this site. I have a fascination and in depth knowledge of all of London's 33 bridges (even the really ugly ones!)\u00a0and also have studied the history and development of the London Underground (the worlds oldest first opened in 1863).\u00a0 The 'forgotten' engineering often gets overlooked and taken for granted by Londoners and visitors alike and I would be happy to explain it to you in detail. I do though also do tours looking at London's modern musical heritage - I have led several including Beatles themed walks, punk walking tours of Chelsea and central London and also wrote the Rock'n'Roll tour featured elsewhere on this site.
